Ritzytwenties, Friday 24th November, Bong Bong, Race 5:
How could I not put my full support behind our Bong Bong Cup runner? This picnic meeting is a real jewel in the calendar, and I encourage everyone to attempt to get there one year. Being from the UK originally, the only thing I can compare it to is a point-to-point meeting, but (hopefully) with much nicer weather. It may not be a race we target horses at months in advance, but I think that this gelding is the ideal candidate. He’s third up off the back of a country win which had so much merit to it, but it’s clear he’s still learning his trade. Bong Bong is a tricky track so he’s going to learn a huge amount and will relish the step up in trip. We have booked record-breaking, Brazilian-born picnic jockey, Leandro Ribeiro, who works as a trackwork rider for Gary Portelli so I’m confident he will be able to guide the gelding around this track’s idiosyncrasies. You won’t get double figure odds here, but I plan to be toasting our third Bong Bong Cup winner on Friday afternoon.
