SATURDAY 4th MAY – EAGLE FARM

Rail Position: RAIL - +7m Entire

YOUTH SPIRIT (Race 1, 11.28pm, 1835m, A Hyeronimus, 59kg)
Youth Spirit looks super ahead of his first start this campaign and he has been progressing nicely since his most recent trial at Wyong just under two weeks ago. He improved from his first to second trial, and these two outings have given him a good base level of conditioning to work from ahead of this run. We were pleased with his gallop in the lead up to this race on Tuesday morning and he has travelled up to our base at Eagle Farm in great order. The 1835 metres here is a good starting point, as all he does is gallop so we were reluctant to start him off over anything much shorter. There doesn’t appear to be too much pace pressure in the race so hopefully he can land in a prominent position from barrier 1 and get into a nice rhythm. He's contested high grade races since arriving from Europe, so this represents a drop in class and whilst 59kg is a big weight he's capable of defying it. We expect him to improve as he stretches out over further this preparation, but he should have enough speed in his legs for this trip first-up and we just want to see him hitting the line strongly to get his preparation off to an encouraging start.

MADRINA (Race 6, 2.23pm, 1000m, A Hyeronimus, 55kg)
Madrina is delighting us ahead of her reappearance. She has been mightily impressive in winning her two trials this time in, and her sectionals have been excellent. She hasn’t missed a beat since, and she's nicely muscled ahead of her first-up start. She has settled into our stable at Eagle Farm very well and we have been extremely happy with her since her arrival. She is a fast filly, so 1000 metres first-up is ideal and whilst starting her off in a Listed race is a tough ask, we think she's up to it and the Black Type will only enhance her value going forwards. Adam will look to use her natural speed to her advantage and gain a forward position from barrier 6 on or just behind the speed. It's a competitive race as you'd expect, but she has ability and with even luck in running we expect her to be challenging at the finish.

SATURDAY 4th MAY – NEWCASTLE

Rail Position: RAIL - +5m Entire

JUSTICE SERVED (Race 4, 2pm, 1870m, A McLucas, 58kg)
Justice Served was still one paced in the closing stages when stepped up to 1500 metres at Newcastle last time and appeared to be crying out for further. To his credit he did stick on in the closing stages and wasn’t beaten far at the line, but we're confident this further step up to 1850 metres will bring about the necessary improvement he needs to get into the Winner’s Circle. Amy will be positive from barrier 7 to get him rolling along into a prominent position where she can look to set the fractions to suit herself from the front. Amy’s valuable 2 kilo claim should prove to be a big advantage and we are hopeful that he will be too strong for them in the run to the line.

CENTENARIO (Race 8, 4.25pm, 1500m, A McLucas, 61.5kg)
Centenario is delighting us ahead of his first Australian start. He improved nicely from his first to second trial, and these two outings have given him a good base level of conditioning to work from ahead of this first-up run. We were pleased with his gallop in the lead up to this race on Tuesday morning and he looks terrific at present. The 1500 metres here is a good starting point for him as being a New Zealand bred stayer, all he does is gallop so we were reluctant to start him off over anything shorter as we'd risk him being too outpaced. Amy’s two kilo claim helps to bring him down in the weights to 59.5kg, and the blinkers are on to ensure he's as focused as possible. It's not easy for three year olds to take on older horses at this level, but we want to get him going to give him every opportunity to develop into a possible Queensland Derby horse and we hope to see him fighting out the finish.

SATURDAY 4th MAY – HAWKESBURY

Rail Position: RAIL - True

SPECIAL ENVOY (Race 4, 1.05pm, 1800m, T Clark, 58.5kg)
There are no two ways about it, Special Envoy has been very disappointing so far this campaign. However, we can't fault his work since his arrival back in Sydney and he appears to be in a very good headspace. His trial at Wyong just under two weeks ago was encouraging and he stuck to his task admirably to find the line well. Hawkesbury's a lovely expansive track, and this should suit him down to the ground and enable him to bowl along in a comfortable rhythm. Tim will be positive from barrier 10, but he'll likely settle just in behind the speed. He won a Benchmark 78 Handicap over 1800 metres at Randwick last preparation so we know the conditions suit and that he's capable of winning, but he needs to bounce back. The rain's falling in Sydney so the track's likely to ease from the Good 4 it's currently rated, but he's got some wet track form and if the real Special Envoy turns up then he's very capable of running a competitive race.

BUTCH CASSIDY (Race 7, 2.50pm, 1400m, R Bayliss, 56kg)
Butch Cassidy ran a terrific race in his most recent start and went down all guns blazing with a big weight on his back. We've been delighted with him since and he seems to have taken another step forward in his trackwork, so he comes into this full of confidence. He is well suited by 1400 metres, and he's drawn a lovely barrier in 6 so Regan will be positive from there and use his tactical speed to roll forward and try and take luck out of the equation. The rain's falling in Sydney so the track's likely to ease from the Good 4 it's currently rated, so hopefully it doesn't become too bottomless. He's a talented colt who looks ready to peak now third-up in a race where he's favourably weighted, so we are hopeful that he can strike gold in this valuable Group 3 contest.

NEW ENDEAVOUR (Race 8, 3.35pm, 1600m, T Clark, 55kg)
New Endeavour ran well first-up and found the line strongly. He's had a lovely trial since then to keep his fitness up to the mark between runs, and we've had our eye on this race for a while as we think it'll suit him perfectly. The rise in distance to 1600 metres will bring about further improvement, and the tempo of the race over this trip will enable him to travel in a comfortable rhythm. There is a fair amount of speed in the race, but Tim will be positive from his wide draw in barrier 12 to roll forward and slot in towards the front of the pack. The rain's falling in Sydney so the track's likely to ease from the Good 4 it's currently rated, but he's got some soft track form in the U.K. and we're hopeful he'll handle it. Imports often take time to acclimatise and he's been no exception, but now that he's done so we expect him to be challenging at the finish.

KIBOU (Race 9, 4.05pm, 1400m, R Bayliss, 59kg)
Kibou is in excellent order ahead of his reappearance and he is a picture of health at present. He's had another jumpout since his original first-up run was abandoned, so he's nice and fit and the steadier tempo of this 1400 metre race should enable him to get into a lovely rhythm. The expansive track at Hawkesbury should also suit him well, and whilst his wide draw isn't ideal he's got the gate speed to hopefully roll forward and get across into a more favourable inside position. He’s got a fantastic first-up record, so whilst we think there's improvement to come as he gets deeper into the preparation he's forward enough to be fighting out the finish.

RISE OF THE MASSES (Race 9, 4.05pm, 1400m, T Clark, 56.5kg)
Rise Of the Masses looks super ahead of his first start this campaign and he has continued to progress nicely since his most recent trial at Randwick. He has three trials under his belt this time in and a recent jumpout, so these have given him a good base level of fitness to work from ahead of this reappearance. We were pleased with his gallop in the lead up to this race on Tuesday morning and he is well conditioned at this stage of his preparation. The 1400 metres here is a good starting point and Tim will be positive from barrier 8 to get him rolling along into a position where he can travel comfortably. We expect him to improve as he gets deeper into the preparation and as he stretches out over further. With that said, he is fit enough to do himself justice and with even luck in running we expect him to be doing his best work at the finish to get his preparation off to an encouraging start.

ROCKETEER GIRL (Race 10, 4.45pm, 1100m, R Bayliss, 54kg)
Rocketeer Girl is in fantastic shape ahead of her first-up run. She was brilliant last preparation, winning at Canterbury and bravely fighting out the finish on multiple occasions at metro level. She looks super at the outset of this campaign, and we are extremely pleased with the progress she has shown since her two trials this time in. These have given her a good fitness foundation, and she's got plenty of speed so 1100 metres promises to be a lovely starting point for her. Barrier 12 is a bit tricky, so Regan will be positive from here to try and get across into a more favourable inside position. She's taking on the boys which is never easy, and the rain is falling in Sydney so the track will likely deteriorate from the Good 4 it's currently rated. However, she is a tenacious mare who always gives her best and we're sure she'll be in it for a long way.
