| Well the AJC and the STC have succumbed to the pressure of the government who dangled the alluring commitment of large sums of money to both Randwick and Rosehill. Is it good for racing? I am not sure. I am a great one for healthy competition which we see with Caulfield and Flemington, and previously the AJC and the STC. But if it means that the money provided will upgrade facilities which so desperately need improving then we have to move with the times. With the committees merging certain people will be stood down and others will form the governing body. I think the new body should govern racing in the state as it seems silly to have Racing NSW plus a new body. It would be bureaucracy on top of bureaucracy and dollars on top of dollars to get this new body paid. Previously these positions had been filled by people who did it for the love of the industry, sometimes to the detriment of their own businesses. I think things will happen very quickly now and hopefully it will prove an uplifting thing. I have had an interesting day. The gallops were great but cold. Damo, Kate, and Alistair were on hand and we all donned our winter woollies. When the dirt closed we moved to the B grass which was a bit shifty so I got the boys to hold their horses together. Stratofortress (Stravinsky), like Joku (Xaar), is a joy to train. They are both great characters who enjoy racing and track-work. Actrice (Elvstroem) continues to please those who throw a leg over. Dal Dal and Cinderella's Secret (Falvelon) match strides well, the former stepping-up to contest next weekend's Rosebud while the half-sister to Love Conquers All races at Canterbury next Wednesday. Halekulani (Encosta De Lago) can gallop and is owned in the purple by females of racing in Ireland, England, New Zealand, and Australia. Nash said his best was Manahara (More Than Ready) who races next week at Canterbury. He has a stack of ability and is well-placed in the event. Mikoyan (Jet Spur) races next at Warwick Farm and Blake was over the moon with him. Al Aseel and Charing Cross. Neil shot away at the top of the straight so Mark and Al Aseel had to work to catch up which he did nicely. Charing Cross was certainly fleet of foot with the blinkers on. Blake declared She's a Sure Thing (Not a Single Doubt) that on Thursday at Wyong. Young Khan is only new to the riding gallops scene but Mark gave him the thumbs up. I told him to put his stirrups up two notches and he immediately had a better seat and a better control of his gallop. Into Hyde Park where Bruce and I met Antonia O'Neill of Map and Page, a bright and intelligent woman who is very PR savvy and is simply the best at putting events together. She is preparing with Slattery Media to launch, yes, wait for it, hang on, yes a book based on this blog and we would love all of you who read it to join us on Wednesday, 29 September to do two things. Launch the book one, and two attend the AJC's Epsom Handicap Barrier Draw. The AJC have never had a barrier draw for their premier Spring Mile, can you believe it, and on the same day I will be flying the flag for ?Gai - In My Words', not Gai - In My Way, that could lead to terrible misunderstanding. Hyde Park, the beginning of racing in NSW some 200 years ago is the current location and Antonia has the job of finding the very best spot. It was then to Bambinis for more chit chat, then back to the stable to catch up with the lads, and finally up to leafy Killara. Damien has certainly clocked up some kilometres. This is a suburb I rarely visit and I was taken by its tranquillity and the surrounds of greenery. We attended the funeral of our next door neighbour's father who passed leaving three sons behind. Each gave an interesting account of how they knew their dad. It was then back into town to have a look at new bed as we are thinking of investing in a new nest as yours truly fights with dust mites. What might dust mites like? Well I can tell you. They like us, flakes of skin, yum yum. They like warmth, the bed, the carpet, and the curtains all perfect. When I went to the doctor for my allergies, thinking it may be my equine friends, my arm blew up like a balloon on the scratch with Mr. Mite present in it. Anyway I had a good work out jumping from allergy-free bed to allergy-free bed, some so high you needed a ladder, others that you could raise the head of for night time reading. Food for thought, something Rob and I can sleep on tonight. |
