| This morning we were a bit short handed. One of our main riders Alex was injured yesterday and is now sidelined for some time. He is already being missed dearly. Irish Alistair came to the tower to see the operation from the other side of the fence at 4.30am. He loved seeing the galloping action and Damo took him through the role of clocking and scribing. He also saw Bruce and I take the notes on the jockeys' comments, just as Aidan does at Ballydoyle, word for word transcribed and sent to the owners. The difference is that the notes in Ireland go to the ?lads' whom I had to think twice about when they used the expression but I quickly realised they were talking of John Magnier and his group. Cap Dancer (Lucky Owners) is spot on to trial next Tuesday at Warwick Farm. Owned by the Once Were Wild team she is a daughter of Lucky Owners. Descarado (High Chaparral) needs a mate as he almost fell asleep in his gallop. Exceedingly Happy (Exceed and Excel) was focussed with blinkers and Gibraltarian (Rock of Gibraltar) is a real ?star' for Denise. He was slow to cotton on but we are now starting to see a lovely horse. He will trial at Warwick Farm on Tuesday. More Strawberries (More Than Ready) will join her stable-mate there too. I was not happy with her first trial and she must have mental telepathy as she has improved out of sight since and Nash delighted with her this morning. Just a Blaze (The Gladiator), gosh I like this fella, went lobbing over 1400m, close to the distance he races over on Saturday at Newcastle (1500m). He looks a picture. Before he was all frame with not much filling but he has blossomed over the past 10 days. Theseo only trot and cantered on the wet track. There was bright flashes and lots of rumbling and tumbling upstairs, the gods must have been having one hell of a fight. Kiss From a Rose (Encosta De Lago) and Little Evie (Al Maher) are going ahead in leaps and bounds. Lifetime Honour (Encosta De Lago) and Tango Valentino (Redoute's Choice) were a good pair and Steve got Battle of Britain (Jet Spur) to settle well. Joy Toy (Encosta De Lago) and Tuxedo Royale (Encosta De Lago) made a nice pair as did Royal Battalion (Encosta De Lago) and Light Brigade (Redoute's Choice) Aubizine (More Than Ready) and Iridesse (Charge Forward), and Pie Cart (Charge Forward) and the Royal Academy/Lady Fidelia gelding were super yearlings. So too Boardwalk Dancer (Strada) and Valleyofthekings (Redoute's Choice). The big gorgeous Encosta De Lago girl everyone is raving about is the Dorado Deceiver yearling. If Denise's door is not knocked down to buy her nothing will sell. |
