Delighted with the way the babies went through the barriers this morning. They walked in like professionals for my riders and cantered out the front. Bart and Anthony also had a lot of their youngsters having a look around. Even though the wind was cold it did not get up so conditions were more than bearable. Green as a gollywog was the remark from Blake after partnering Two for Tea. He bowled over 1400m and Blake said he was not concentrating so he roared in his ear at the 400m mark and boy did he switch on. Cinderella's Secret (Danzero) produced great work running down 600m and Mark said Needs Further (Encosta De Lago) got fired up with blinkers so they have been thrown in the rubbish bin and will not be used again. Someday Somehow (Statue of Liberty) Nash gave the thumbs up to go to Moonee Valley next week. Zutara (Encosta De Lago) and Squamosa (Not a Single Doubt) made a tremendous pair. She is ready to trial and he races in the Rosebud next. Snip n Paste (Snippetson) was wearing blinkers and she was most happy. Blake was delighted with Our Freedom (Choisir). Moon Lake (Encosta De Lago), Charing Cross (Fastnet Rock), and Halekulani (Encosta De Lago) made a terrific trio, all testing each other and making each other think. Stuart Ramsey, best known for his great beef but in racing he is known for breeding good tough horses, sent me a tiny filly called Our Pick (Johannesburg) earlier this year ."Is it any good", Stuart would ask. I said not much but she has shown me a glimmer so let her mature and send her back. Alex said she was his second best gallop of the morning and commented, "She has a great action". I am over the moon with forestry colt Al Aseel. In his last two pieces of work the penny has dropped and he has found the line stylishly. Steve said he noticed a big difference in attitude since he rode him last preparation. Extra Happy (Exceed and Excel) is much improved as when she worked on heavy grass track the other day it was not to her liking. Percy, now in his nineties this fragile and diminutive vet, put his hand down her throat, young vet Rachel arms outstretched behind him in case he fell. "She has couple of rough teeth back there", said Percy as he retrieved his worn hand covered in blood from a sharp molar. I produced a wet wipe on demand to stop the flow of blood. I said to Percy, "it is a wonderful thing you come to the stables in the afternoon",and he replied, "What would I do if I didn't?" This brilliant vet enjoys being out looking at the horses and his astute observations are a great education for the rest of us in his company. I am bemused that cash-strapped Racing NSW has felt it appropriate to run an expensive full-page ad in the today's Herald; in it they declare, in Orwellian tones, "Did we win the Court case? Yes, the legislation was upheld by the Judge etc."
In reality, and to the contrary of these wasteful ads, the Sportsbet verdict was against Racing NSW and in the Betfair case, the Judge invited Betfair to make further submissions along Sportsbet lines, and, it can expected, Betfair will win also.
And, you might think strangely for a party who says they have won, Racing NSW is appealing the Judgement.
The real problem Racing NSW won't face up to is, under the Judgements, whilst ever the TABcorp gets the "under the table" rebate of its Race Fields tax, Racing NSW will keep losing these cases. The Judge hated the secret backhanders. And I don't see how the TAB can afford to pay the full tax - it's virtually 100% of its net profit on NSW.
Please let's get away from the "1984 ?newspeak'", the Orwell fictional language, and the propaganda. |
