The Beautifully Bred Evening Slippers Breaks Her Maiden In Fine Style

You can’t beat the feeling of winning a race, especially when the horse in question was 2018’s most expensive yearling. Evening Slippers is her name and the two-year-old filly certainly holds a special place in our stable. Exquisitely bred, Evening Slippers is by the Champion Sire Snitzel and out of the Stakes placed mare Flidais, which makes her a full sister to our very own Group 1 winning mare Sweet Idea and dual Group 2 winner Showtime.  What some of you might not remember is that Gai trained her dam Flidais making this daughter of Snitzel an even more special filly for us.

Evening Slippers as a yearling

Evening Slippers broke her maiden in fine style in only her second start on Wednesday at Warwick Farm for owners Jon Kelly, Jim Wiltz, Arrowfield Stud Farm and Mr Yoshida. Off the back of two very impressive trials Evening Slippers was sent out favourite and she lived up to all expectations putting in a sensational performance on the day. The filly flew out of the gates and everything went to plan for top jockey Tim Clark as she led all the way. Coming into the home straight, Evening Slippers and the smart Godolphin filly, Bollywood, cleared away from the pack and the two favourites went stride for stride until the very final stages of the race where Evening Slippers fought off her rival to get her nose over the line.

A graduate of Arrowfield Stud, Evening Slippers was the star filly of the 2018 Magic Millions Sale bringing $1,800,000 in the sales ring. Evening Slippers won her first trial impressively and ran a gallant third on debut to Time To Reign, the subsequent  Group 2 Silver Slipper Stakes winner, and Bivouac, the winner of the Listed Lohnro Plate. We always knew we had a smart filly on our hands and she certainly proved that on the track this week.

Evening Slippers has pulled up a treat from her run and she will only improve with the race experience.  She will now head to the Group 3 Kindergarten Stakes over 1100m at Randwick on the 6th of April and we are confident this talented filly will add some valuable Black Type to her resume.
